Invasion is Different from other Games

Other games like Assault, Capture the Flag, King of the Hill, and the rest do not rely heavily on the Game type File that goes with the map.   Sure they will rely on the Game type File to specify how many bombs or flags, Reset timers, and hill movements, but these settings rarely effect on how you set up the map.  Invasion is completely different from those.  Invasion is a Phased game where there are multiple objectives in a game but one at a time.  These phases are set in the Game type options, and there are 3 phases with 3 possible objectives, and must be paired to the map for it to work correctly.  These Objectives are Territories, where one team defends 1 or more locations from the attacking team; Capture the Core, where the attacker take a big heavy box to a designated extraction point; and lastly Assault, where the attacker try to blow something at the defenders base.

Invasion also uses a brand new way of spawning.  All other games use a very complicated way of choosing where the player will spawn based upon where Allies are, Allies have died, and Enemies.  Invasion brakes away from the norm and allows the player to choose where to spawn.  Where the player can choose from is based upon the team they are on, the phase of the game they are in, and what Fireteam (explained later) they are in.

Invasion has another new feature, mainly because of the introduction of phases, is spawning and gating weapons, vehicles, and other objects.

This post will go in detail on how to set up the map for each of those 3 Objectives and much more.

Now has 2 videos describing this for you:

Setting up the Objectives

Before continuing you should have:

  • what Objectives you want to use
  • What Phase those objectives will be used in
  • An Invasion Game type variant that has the the Objective set in each phase
    • when choosing the game type file use the File “Invasion” or it will not work properly
      • NOT “Invasion: Boneyard,” “Invasion: Spire,” or “Invasion: Breakpoint” as they are specific to those maps and will not work properly on custom maps.
    • Default Invasion is Phase 1 = Territories; Phase 2 = Territories; Phase 3 = Capture the Core
  • where you want those objectives to be
  • Who you want to be attacking and defending
    • Default Invasion is Attacking = Blue/Elites; Defending = Red/Spartans

Now you should be ready to set the objectives

  • But while setting up the map you will need to remember and distinguish the phase from each other.

Setting up Territories

  • These are usually place close to the defenders base, but not to close
  • Usually 2 of these
    • Each has its own timer
    • If one reaches 0 it counts as win for the attackers and the next phase will start
  1. Create a Hill marker
  2. Place it where you want the territory to be
  3. Hit the “x” button to open the properties window
  4. Go down to the shape and give it a shape
    1. Set to at least the area of the size of a Spartan, although I would recommend
      1. Circle 3x3x3 (W*T*B) (Bottom only if off the floor and you want to be accessed from the bottom)
      2. Box 3*3*3*3 (W*T*B*L) (Bottom only if off the floor and you want to be accessed from the bottom)
      3. or fill the room or section it is in
  5. Open the advance tab
  6. Set Game type Specific = “TRUE”
  7. Change the Game type Label = “INV_OBJECTIVE”
  8. Remember what Phase what you were using Territories in (1, 2, or 3) and place that value in the Spawn Sequence
    1. This will not work if the value is 0 or 4+
  9. Repeat steps 1 to 8 other territories

Setting up Capture the Core

  • The core usually Spawns in side the defenders base
  • The Capture location for the core is usually in an open location toward the middle of the map for the “Drop ship” to come in a pick up.

First We will set up the core Spawn location

  1. Create a Flag stand (found in Objective Tab)
  2. Place it where you want the Core to spawn
  3. Hit the “x” button to open the properties window
  4. Open the Advanced Tab
  5. Set Game type Specific = “TRUE”
  6. Change the Game Type Label = “INV_OBJ_FLAG”
  7. Remember what Phase what you were using Capture the Core in (1, 2, or 3) and place that value in the Spawn Sequence
    1. This will not work if the value is 0 or 4+
  8. Create only 1 of these

Now for the Capture zone for the Core

  1. Create a Capture Plate
  2. Place it where you want the Capture zone to be
  3. Hit the “x” button to open the properties window
  4. Go down to the shape and give it a shape
    1. Set to at least the area of the size of a Spartan (this is because they only need to enter the area for the win)
  5. Open the advance tab
  6. Set Game type Specific = “TRUE”
  7. Change the Game type Label = “INV_OBJECTIVE”
  8. Remember what Phase what you were using Capture the Core in (1, 2, or 3) and place that value in the Spawn Sequence
    1. This will not work if the value is 0 or 4+
  9. Create only 1 of these

Setting up Assault

  • The Bomb should Spawn near the Attacker’s base
  • The Capture locations for the bomb is usually by the Defender’s base.
  • Usually paired with objects labeled with the “INV_GATE” because it simulates explosions

First We will set up the Bomb Spawn location

  1. Create a Capture Plate (found in Objective Tab)
  2. Place it where you want the Bomb to spawn
  3. Hit the “x” button to open the properties window
  4. Open the Advanced Tab
  5. Set Game type Specific = “TRUE”
  6. Change the Game Type Label = “INV_OBJ_FLAG”
  7. Remember what Phase what you were using Assault in (1, 2, or 3) and place that value in the Spawn Sequence
    1. This will not work if the value is 0 or 4+
  8. Create only 1 of these

Now for the Capture zone for the Bomb

  1. Create a Capture Plate
  2. Place it where you want the Bomb to explode
  8. Remember what Phase what you were using Assault in (1, 2, or 3) and place that value in the Spawn Sequence
    1. This will not work if the value is 0 or 4+
  9. Repeat steps 1 to 8 other Capture Zones for Assault
    1. Create 1 or 2 of these

Setting up Gated (deleted) and Phased (spawning) Objects

Setting up Invasion Gates

  • You should not use the Gated label on Guns, as the player holding it will that weapon, or vehicles, as the player will spawn a an available Respawn point (not the invasion Spawns)
  • Anything with this label will disappear at the end of the phase associated with that object
    • This includes Safe and Kill Boundaries
  1. Select the Object you want to be deleted at the end of an Invasion Phase
  2. Hit “x” to open the Properties Window
  3. Open the Advance Tab
  4. Set Game type Specific = “TRUE”
    1. Leave “FALSE” if it is an object that will be used in other game types
  5. Change the Game type Label = “INV_GATE”
  6. Set the Spawn Sequence to the LAST Phase that you want the object to be in (1, 2, or 3)
    1. This will not work if the value is 0 or 4+
  7. Repeat steps 1 to 6 for each Item that you want to be deleted during Invasion

Setting up Invasion Phased Objects

  • Primarily used for Weapons and Vehicles (which each have a dedicated Label)
  • Items with this label must have a Spawn time (in the Properties Window)
  • Will not work on Safe and Kill boundaries
  1. Select the Object you want to be created at the Beginning of an Invasion Phase
  2. Hit “x” o open the Properties Windows
  3. Open the Advanced Tab
  4. Set Game Type Specific = “TRUE”
    1. Leave “FALSE” if it is an object that will be used in other game types
  5. Change the Gametype Label
    1. If a Weapon, Building, Armor ability, scenery, or an object spawned that you do not want to have a waypoint above it
      1. Set Gametype Label = “INV_WEAPON”
    2. If a Vehicle, or an object spawned that you want to have a waypoint above it
      1. Set Gametype Lable = “INV_VEHICLE”
  6. Set the Spawn Sequence to the FIRST Phase that you want the object to be in (1, 2, or 3)
    1. This will not work if the Value is 0 or 4+

Setting up Invasion Spawning

  • Invasion uses a new way for spawning players, normally to set up a map for spawning you only need to create a single Respawn Zone for each team (once you have respawn points on the map).
  • Now in order to set up the spawning you need to know a few things
    • What a Fire Team is
      • The Game is divided in to two teams, Elites and Spartans, of 6.
      • Each team is sub divided in to 3 teams of two, this subdivision of the teams is called a Fireteam.
      • When setting up Spawning you can choose to spawn the whole team or just a single fireteam at a point.
    • Where will this spawn location be
      1. Up close and by the action
      2. Backfield away from the action by the power weapons
    • Who you want it to effect
      1. Elites or Spartans
      2. Which Fireteam in that team you want it to effect
    • When you want it to be active
      1. during a single phase or all Phases

First you need Initial Spawns for players

  • Depending on who is attacking and defending, have attackers a medium distance from the first objective and the defenders close to the first objective.

Initially at the beginning of the match player must spawn using Normal Initial Spawns.  It is recommended to have initial spawns set to Invasion So the invasion Player will Spawn Together.

  1. Go to the Spartan’s/Red starting point (varies by map)
  2. Create an Initial Spawn (found in the Spawning tab) and place it where you want it to be
  3. Set team to Red (REQUIRED)
  4. go to the advanced tab
  5. Set the Gametype Specific = “TRUE”
  6. Set gametype Label = “INVASION”
  7. Repeat 1 to 6 this at least 6 times
  8. Repeat steps 1 to 7 for Elite’s/Blue starting point

Next you will need to set up Phased Spawns

  • Depending on who is attacking and defending, have attackers a medium-far distance from the objective and the defenders close-medium to the objective
  • These are Team and Fireteam specific
  • These will be active for 1 Phase and as the game progresses through the phase they will be useable and unusable .
  • There should be at least one of these per phase
  1. Go to where the Spartans will be during the First Phase
  2. Create a Hill marker (in Objective Tab)
  3. Place about the Height of a spartan from the ground
  4. open the object properties by hitting x
  5. Set team to “RED”
  6. Go to the advance tab
  7. Set the Gametype specific = “TRUE”
  8. Set Gametype Label = “INV_RES_P1”
  9. Set the Spawn Sequence to:
    1. “0” if you want it to be used by Fireteam 1
    2. “1” if you want it to be used by Fireteam 2
    3. “2” if you want it to be used by Fireteam 3
    4. “3” if you want it to be used by All Fireteams
      1. If you have 0, 1, or 2 have one of each
      2. if you have 3 you may not need 0, 1, or 3.
  10. Repeat steps 1 through 9 for for phase 2  and Phase 3 replacing “INV_RES_P1” for “INV”_RES_P2” (for Phase 2) and “INV_RES_P3” (for Phase 3)
  11. Repeat steps 1 through 10 for the Elites

Next You will need to set up is Backfield Spawns

  • These are Team and NOT Fireteam specific
  • These will be active for one phase
  • These should be used if you are having phased vehicles at the back of the field
  1. Go to where the Spartan’s Vehicles will be during the First Phase (if not skip to step )
  2. Create a Hill marker (in Objective Tab)
  3. Place about the Height of a spartan from the ground
  4. open the object properties by hitting x
  5. Set team to “RED”
  6. Go to the advance tab
  7. Set the Gametype specific = “TRUE”
  8. Set Gametype Label = “INV_RES_ZONE”
  9. Set the Spawn Sequence to:
    1. “0” if you want it to be used durring all Phases
      1. Keep in mind that this will be able to be used during all phases
    2. “1” if you want it to be used during Phase 1
    3. “2” if you want it to be used during Phase 2
    4. “3” if you want it to be used during Phase 3
  10. Repeat steps 1 through 9 for for phase 2 and Phase 3 using the appropriate Spawn Sequence
  11. Repeat steps 1 through 10 for the Elites/blue team
